A Shroud Cast Over-Melodies From My Heart To The Grave

I can barely find any pictures of this band. I've been meaning to post this since I've had quite a few requests for it. A Shroud Cast Over was an awesome chaotic/melodic metalcore band from Milwaukee of course. Not sure what bands they went on to do and as far as I know this is their only release. Here is their biography on their Last Fm page.

''A Shroud Cast Over, during their short existence between 2001 and 2003, stood out as a band that was not afraid to create their own niche. They never bowed down to the typical cliches that were popular at the time, the At The Gates / Iron Maiden thrash riffing or the tough guy mosh breakdowns that made the second rate bands coming up at the time so forgettable.

Beyond their strong musical abilities, intelligent song structuring, and vocalist CJ Krueger’s great stage presence were a set of good people who weren’t afraid to accept shows from bands that weren’t considered cool and in venues and cities that weren’t tied to Milwaukee’s insulated hardcore scene.

Their open mindedness created a lot of new hardcore kids, and they made sure to reinforce the ethics of hardcore to the people they introduced to the scene. Had they stuck it out a few more years, I’m sure they’d have been the biggest band in the city.

A Shroud Cast Over got together with intentions to make an emotional impact on other people lives and their own, through music and lyrics. R.I.P. 2001-2003
''.

Download this, it's super good stuff! Very passionate sounding metalcore.

Gadrel live.

I'm sure everyone remembers North Carolina's Glass Casket. Well this is Gadrel the band that came before Glass Casket, I'm not sure if it's all the same members with just a different name or different members besides the vocalist. I do know that members of Glass Casket went on to play in BTBAM.
I'll be doing a post about them and Glass Casket as well soon. Personally I've always liked Gadrel more. Also, I'm not sure when this was filmed.

Stranger By Day

Technically SBD was a little different then all of the stuff I post on here but they were a very important part of our local scene. I feel like this band never got the recognition they deserved even after they put out an incredible record on Uprising Records.
This is probably one of the most important bands to come from Atlanta, GA for me. If it wasn't for these dudes myself and a lot of my friends would not be doing what we do today. Stranger By Day was one of the hardest working, down to earth, and awesome bands from our area. Originally they started off like a Strung Out influenced punk band with some metal influences but over time they developed their own sound and made some of the catchiest music in my personal opinion of all time. I was lucky to see them at my first show back in 2000 and for some reason they actually befriended the awkward 12 year old me.
After that I would catch them at any show I could, they parted ways with their original vocalist Mike and got Josh Kimmel the singer of another super rad band from our area No Cigar. After a few demo samplers with like three songs on it that they would pass out at shows, they released If Tomorrow Was The End. An awesome record that really showed them branching out from their more punk beginnings and showed their progression as a band. After a few years of playing shows all around/outside of GA they had a pretty big following here and caught the attention of Uprising Records(at the time 7 Angels 7 Plagues, Stretch Arm Strong and now just pure shit). They put out Death Of Apathy and started touring as much as time/money would allow them. Death Of Apathy got a great response but they had a horrible curse of lineup changes(I honestly don't even know what the correct list is). In 2005 Stranger By Day played their last show and called it quits, it's a shame that this band didn't receive all the hype that a lot of bands in that time received.

It still amazes me to this day that horrible bands from here like Attila and Woe Is Me are so successful by doing almost nothing and bands like SBD, and other locals from here worked their asses off but still didn't get the recognition they deserved, I guess the internet just does wonders for for bands nowadays. Anyway, enough of my ranting check out the record Death Of Apathy a super under rated album from one of the best bands you'll never hear about. I'll post If Tomorrow Was The End sometime next week after I go to my dad's and rip a copy.

Members went on to play in the bands Campaign(AWESOME), 1994(RIP), Drag The Waters(RIP), and others I'm sure.

A Summary Execution-Kings Of Rock Cliche

After some searching I found the full length that Minnesota's A Summary Execution put out. I seriously can't believe I've never heard of these guys before this last week, this full length is incredible! It's sad this band definitely didn't get the recognition they deserved they wrote some very quality stuff, and I'm not just saying that because I'm a sucker for this stuff but because it's actually musically really good/creative.
There's a lot of melody on this but it's not just typical cheesy metalcore riffs(even though I love cheesy metalcore riffs), the leads are super uplifting and it just brings different dynamics to each song. The drummer is really good and his fills are very impressive. I love the vocalist's raspy vocals and his lows are awesome in my opinion. This record is just super catchy, I'm loving it.

Check it out if you are a fan of: As Hope Dies, Dead To Fall, Nehemiah, and any other bands I post about on this blog basically.
Only negative thing is that I couldn't find a reliable source for track listing or any kind of art but I tried my best on the track listing, please let me know if it needs any changes! I also have their demo I'll post that later!

Son Of Day live in 2006

When I lived in Cincinnati there was a band from there that broke up a little before I moved there that everyone was into called Son Of Day. I had never heard of them but I knew of a few of the guys that played in it so I checked them out through some friends. This band ruled, they recorded a demo that I'll post on here soon once I rip the cd to my computer. This band played metalcore with some very catchy melodies. After this band broke up a few of the members went on to be in the bands Rose Funeral and Suicide Pact. I found this video and had to post it, it skips a little but it's still pretty rad.

Coma Eternal live

Found this a while ago and I've been meaning to post it on here. Coma Eternal live at The Fireside Bowl back in 2003. I'll be posting their stuff on here soon and I mean it this time. This band had members of As The Ruin Falls, End This Day, and Nehemiah. Apparently some of the members went on to be in Dead To Fall And Poison The Well. Coma Eternal ruled I wish they would have written more stuff.

Undying-The Whispered Lies Of Angels

In my opinion, this is another crucial record to any fan of this era. Undying was from North Carolina(The 2nd capitol for metalcore back in those days) and was one of the best.

Here is a Biography I found on their last fm page:

''Formed in 1998, in the then unlikely locale of North Carolina, Undying’s blend of fast-paced euro-metal and dramatic guitar melody, mixed with crushing breakdowns and furious and scatching vocals have become as much a trademark as the band’s poetic lyrics, politics, and activism. Skilled musicianship and an emphasis on songwriting allow the band to deliver music and message that blur the lines between hardcore and metal, owing as much to At the Gates and My Dying Bride, as to Catharsis and Earth Crisis.

Formed and comprised of ex-members of such acts as Day of Suffering, Prayer for Cleansing, and Catharsis, Undying’s hard-earned reputation as one of the hardest working bands in the underground scene (with nothing but a demo in hand) landed them a deal with fledgling Fifth Column Conspiracy, who released the band’s debut EP This Day All Gods Die, which went on to sell out two pressings before the label folded. Garnering the attention of Belgium’s Goodlife Recordings, the band’s first full-length, The Whispered Lies of Angels followed, cementing their position as one of the genre’s most emotionally charged and powerful acts

In a turning point for the band, original vocalist Timothy Roy began suffering severe vocal problems and chose to leave the band. However, after long and careful deliberation, the band decided that they wanted nothing more than to push on and announced that they were in search of someone to fill the vacant slot.

Undying re-emerged with vocalist Logan White, an (at the time) eighteen-year-old female whose brutal scream and commanding presence left little doubt that the band was better than ever. One Day Savior Recordings, who re-released the band’s debut, This Day… expressed interest in a new release, and the band entered Mars Recording Studio with Bill Korecky (Terror, Integrity, Keelhaul, Mushroomhead, Catharsis, Incantation…) to record their next record. At History’s End continues the band’s story, yet incorporates more concise songwriting, heavier breaks, passionate and intelligent lyrics, interwoven with a signature sense of melody and harmony.''

Sadly after they released At History's End they broke up, but they paved the way for so many bands. The guitar harmonies and melodies on The Whispered Lies Of Angels are unbeatable and still continue to memorize me to this day. I'll post their other releases in the next day or so.

Rain Of Ruin

I was told to upload this a while ago but I had a hard time finding it for some reason.
Anyhow here is Rain Of Ruin's EP Forever Rising Into Flames, I'm not sure if they did anything else they were only around from 2003-2004 but they ruled and of course were from Milwaukee(capitol of awesome metalcore).
They featured members of the band A Thought Upon Leaving another awesome band from that area.

This EP is so good, do yourself a favor and listen.

Dead To Fall-At The Gates cover 2004

There are so many awesome things about this video, I can't even begin to name them all.

Royalty In Exile update

Since this band doesn't really have a website and it seems like people check out this blog from time to time from all the emails I get(they pile up when I never check it, that's for sure). I'm going to post a recent video of the band Royalty In Exile. I'm incredibly stoked to know that this band is still going, I talk to their drummer Jose every now and then and he has told me that they are working on a full length. Pretty sure it's going to be one of the best releases to have come out in a lonnnnnnnng time. Seriously if you haven't listened to their EP I have an earlier post with a link to it. This band rules so much. For those who don't know, Matt Matera from 7A7P/Dead To Fall is in this band as well.

Whoah an actual update! A Summary Execution

I have neglected this blog like I have a lot of other things in my life but I seriously am going to start updating it.

Anyway, there is nothing that I love more then finding new bands. Here is one I just recently stumbled upon and I'm pretty happy I did. They were called A Summary Execution from Minneapolis, MN. I have no idea how long they were a band but I found their myspace and a few songs off their purevolume. I was blown away does anyone have the whereabouts of any full lengths/eps/whatever they put out? I would love to post it on here.

Till then here is a link to their stuff on pv and Myspace:

(Edit: I just found out they put out one full length if anyone who has it could hook me up with I would be super stoked to have it/post it!
